Visit from York Music Service - Wednesday 21st June
We were very fortunate to have a visit from 4 talented musicians associated with York Music Service and the University of York, who did a whole school assembly.
They demonstrated different instruments, encouraged children to have a go at playing and then performed some well known pieces for the children to listen to.
We hope that some of our children will be inspired to start music lessons at school from September?!
Visit from A.P. Winter - Author of "The Boy Who Went Magic"
The children had a fantastic time when local author A P Winter came into school to talk to them about his writing and to inspire them, telling them that any one of them could be a writer if they have the determination and imagination.
The children had an opportunity to buy his first novel "The Boy Who Went Magic" and he kindly signed them all for each child.
York Press wrote about the visit as follows:

CHILDREN at a York school have welcomed a local author as part of his book launch.

AP Winter spoke to the pupils about his inspiration behind writing, the jobs he has had along the way - including chocolate taster and TV extra - and magic in children’s books.

Mr Winter was launching his new book The Boy Who Went Magic, and read an extract to the children and their families as part of his visit. Kate Frankish from the school said she found Mr Winter’s book “engrossing”. She said: “The year 5/6 class have been thinking about what ‘magic’ means and discussing the difference between black magic and white magic, both of which are featured in the novel. We’re a small school but very friendly and I think he wasn’t expecting the children to be as involved as they were but they had a lot of questions and I think he thought it was a good atmosphere for them.”

York Rescue Boat, Friday 16th June 2017
Our younger children welcomed the York Rescue Boat into school today.  They learned the importance of water safety and also about the work the Rescue Boat do to help people in difficult situations.  It was informative and great fun, especially getting to sit in the boat!
Visit from Chris Cook - Olympic Swimmer - Monday 12th June
We were very excited to welcome Chris Cook, Olympic Swimmer, into school on Monday 12th June. Chris did a whole school assembly and took a special PE session with Year 5/6. All the children really enjoyed his visit and we are hoping that they will be inspired to do more exercise and sport in the future!
Pedestrian Training
Year 3/4 (Beech) class started their pedestrian training this week, which was delivered by City of York Council. They were all very well behaved and started to improve their knowledge of pedestrian safety on our roads and public places. We are sure that they will find the skills they learn over the next few weeks, extremely important as they grow up.
Walk to School Week
The children all made a fantastic effort to walk/scoot/cycle to school in Walk to School week and the results were.....

1st place with 77.7%  -  OAK

2nd place with 74.4% -  BEECH

3rd place with 72% -  SYCAMORE

4th place with 58% -  WILLOW

Well done to everyone!
