School Meals & Current Menu

We pride ourselves in supplying our children with excellent food. We feel that it is one of the most important parts of a child's life - to eat properly.
Eating a healthy diet enables a child to live life to the full and gives them a better performance all round, specifically helping with their concentration levels - which in turn affects achievement.
So we encourage all of our children to have a school dinner. We have a high uptake of school dinners at our school. Its good to know that our children are getting a well balanced and heathly school meal.
School Catering Changes from September 2017

You may be aware that for the last few years, City of York has contracted with ISS Caterers on behalf of all primary schools. This agreement will come to an end next week and as such York schools have had to decide how to operate their catering provision independently.

We are pleased to say that we have decided to move our catering service in-house and as such we will be employing Ms Eve Smith and Mrs Michelle Fenwick, (who currently work for ISS at school) directly and we will be buying in small school catering expertise from North Yorkshire County Caterers, who we have spent time working with on a new set of healthy, appetising menus for the year ahead. North Yorkshire County Caterers are very experienced at supporting small schools with the provision of a high quality, value for money service and we are hopeful that our in-house staff, working together with them, will be able to improve the service and quality provided to all the children opting for a school meal.

However, as a small school within a larger contract, we have been fortunate for the last few years, to have had the service subsidised by the larger schools within the City of York and this obviously will no longer be available. We have therefore tried very hard to make efficiencies within the service we aim to provide, but as a school we don’t want to compromise on quality and service. We are therefore going to have to increase the price of paid school meals from September to £2.25 per meal, which is an increase of 10p on the current price. We feel that this is fair, given the range of prices charged across all York schools which are between £2 and £2.50.

A new menu for the Autumn Term is available to download in this section of our website, along with a Special Diet Request Form. Please note that Special Diet requests must be accompanied by the details and signature of the medical person who prescribed the diet.

Payments for school meals should be made at the beginning of each week/term by cash or cheque made payable to: Skelton Primary School. If you think that your child may be entitled to free school meals, please ask the School Office for an application form or download one from this website.

Many thanks.
