Early Years Provision
We are very proud of our Early Years provision at Skelton Primary.
In 2016-2017 we are extremely fortunate to be able to offer a small (currently 11 pupils) single age class for Reception age children.
Our indoor and outdoor areas have been developed this year and provide an outstanding learning environment for our children. The environment allows the children to be independent, autonomous, successful and most of all, happy in their learning!
Children are involved in planning their own curriculum, and we work on themes and interests which they share with us. Our curriculum is supported by visitors to our setting – vets, police, fire engine, and district nurse to name a few, and also visits beyond the setting – locally or further afield!
Children make fantastic progress in our setting – this year making an average of 10 months progress just within the Autumn term! This is an amazing start from which to build.
We use the Read Write Inc. scheme to support the development of reading and writing, and this has proved extremely successful – our children are confident and independent writers, and they love reading a good story.
We are lucky to share great relationships with our parents. The children’s learning journeys with us are recorded on Tapestry (an online learning journal) which allows parents to access pictures and comments daily. They are also able to upload photographs and observations made at home to share with us. Parents are welcomed in to our classroom and enjoy reading, baking and gardening with the children. Open craft afternoons have also been very popular – everyone likes to get involved!
As a prospective parent we would love for you to come and take a look and judge for yourself. Speak with parents of our current Early Years children and our welcoming staff who look forward to meeting you!
